Earn a Microcredential to Verify Your Peer Mentor Skills

As a peer mentor, you are able to develop valuable, transferrable skills that can serve you well in many different future career fields.  By earning a peer mentoring microcredential, you will have a way to provide verified proof of your skills, validated by the University of Arizona Office of the Registrar, just like your transcript verifies completion of your university coursework.

Peer Mentor | Level 1

Whether you are in a paid position, a preceptorship or serving as a volunteer, you can earn a microcredential that recognizes the skills you have developed in this role.  The Peer Mentor Level 1 microcredential verifies that you have completed training in active listening and paraprofessional skills, gained quantifiable experience meeting with and supporting peers, and developed documentation, time management and professional skills.

Verified Recognition: Each badge represents a validated achievement, skill, or credential issued by a trusted organization, making it more credible than self-claimed skills

Career Visibility: Badges can be shared on LinkedIn, email signatures, websites, and social media, helping you showcase your capabilities to employers and peers

Personalized Learning Pathways: You can receive recommendations for next steps, such as related badges or learning content, helping you build a structured development plan

Portable and Permanent: Once earned, badges remain with you, not the employer—providing a lifelong, portable record of achievement.  Like a transcript for skills.

Enhanced Internal Mobility: Within organizations, badges help identify talent for promotions, new assignments, or cross-functional projects based on verified skills

If you wish to continue your development, there will also be Level 2 and Level 3 credentials available in spring 2027.

  • Earn a Peer Mentoring Position
    Recipient must be selected to serve as a peer mentor through a selection or application process approved by a University program or department, such as Peer Mentoring, a TRiO program or other program offering peer mentoring.  A recipient cannot just accumulate the skills without being selected and supervised in a peer mentor role. 
     

  • Complete Asynchronous Training on EDGE
    Complete an asynchronous training program that includes: 


    This will be assessed by viewing completion in EDGE, or submission of completion certificates in EDGE for the trainings.

  • 4 Hours Additional Training & 5 Hours of Supervision
    Complete at least 4 hours of in-person training to develop and practice skills learned asynchronously. The supporting program or department staff verify completion. Recipients must also complete 5 hours of supervised support in the form of synchronous one-on-one meetings, group/staff meetings, or continued training. Time can be accumulated in one form or a combination.  Your supervisor will complete a short form to verify completion.
     
  • 25 One-on-One Meetings
    Complete at least 25 total one-on-one meetings with a mentee, and complete documentation for those meetings in a CRM of a program's choice (ex: Trellis, Student Access, eSMS, etc.).

Although not required directly for the Peer Mentor Microcredentials, the following trainings are recommended (and in some cases, required for student employees) for Peer Mentors accessing student data and University systems:

Mandatory Annual Information Security Awareness Training

FERPA Training: for Staff

Safety Preparedness Training: Active Shooter

Title IX Training

Preventing Sexual Assault and Harassment

Submission is easy!  Simply complete our form  submit your documentation and request approval from your supervisor.  Once your supervisor completes the form, a member of the Peer Mentoring team will submit your information to the Registrar for approval.

Peer Mentor | Level 2

Peer Mentors with extensive experience and training can obtain a Level 2 microcredential.  This microcredential verifies that the recipient has completed over 100 one-on-one meetings with a mentee, and participated in additional mental health and student population support trainings.
