Fred Huang

Hello! I’m Fred Huang, Learning Specialist with TRiO/Student Support Services. My family emigrated from Taiwan, and I’m the first of my family born in the United States. I’ve spent most of my life in Arizona among few other people of Asian descent, and that has provided an opportunity for me to seek community and gain perspective on the importance of being a part of a community. This experience has influenced my career in education. I earned a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Arizona and worked as a high school counselor before joining the TRiO and Thrive team. What drew me to the work here is the opportunity to partner with students to help them achieve their academic and personal goals. I hope to create an inclusive space where all students feel welcome. I care deeply for matters of social justice and am committed to my own continual growth and learning. Working with Thrive, TRiO, and our students provides an opportunity to do that professionally, which I appreciate. My bachelor’s degree is in Interdisciplinary Studies, focusing on music and film, two passions of mine. In my personal time, I enjoy getting creative by making music and doing other artistic projects, but what I really do with most of my free time is watch TV. You got any recommendations?
